
Project Charter
An overview of the project and its targets
This consultant assignment has three project-level objectives:
- Design the 'architecture' for an information and communications gateway on global social
policy and development issues through World Wide Web, Gopher and e-mail. It covers
initially subprograms related to (1) WSSD follow up, (2) global policies on persons with
disabilities and (3) observation of the International Year of Older Persons in 1999.
- Implement above web sites and undertake pilot action for accessibility.
- Train Division-level specialist teams on the daily use, operation and maintenace of the
above web sites.

- Phase 1(a) - Analysis and Definition. -> End of February 1998
Major
outcomes are (i). Assessment report with recommendations based
on research on social development information needs and sources, (ii). Outline of prototype and structure, including original organization
of sections. (iii). Definition of linking strategies
- Phase 1(b) - Prototype design, development, testing and production. -> End of
May 1998
Major outcomes are: (i). Web prototype in place, (ii). Prototype
evaluation report (only available in the documentation CD), (iii) Development documentation.
- Phase 1(c) - Implementation, fine-tuning, training -> End of June 1998
Major outcomes are: (i). Guidelines, maintenance manual,
(ii). Project evaluation report (only available in the documentation CD).
