Division for Social Policy and Development:
Focal Point on Disability Issues

The Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Secretariat in New York is the focal point within the United Nations system on matters relating to disability. It is also the focal point for activities related to global social development, to youth, older persons and the family.

The Division's programme on Disabled Persons deals with promotion, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the World Programme of Action and the Standard Rules. In addition it prepares publications and acts as a clearing-house for information on disability issues; promotes national, regional and international programmes and activities; provides support to Governments and non-governmental organizations; gives substantial support to technical co-operation projects and activities.

The Division for Social Policy and Development works closely with major international non-governmental organizations dealing with disability issues and supports technical co-operation activities which are jointly prepared with them. In addition, the Division organizes or collaborates in international expert meetings on disability matters.
