MANIFESTO OF COMMITMENT
TO PROVIDE ACCESSIBLE ICT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

We, the participants of the “Workshop on Accessible ICT for Persons with Disabilities” held at [location and date], representing the different line agencies,

Recognize:

1. The urgency of providing accessible ICT as a tool towards creating economic opportunities for the differently abled persons and the rest of the marginalized sector.

2. The existence of ICT accessibility barriers in the country that prevents the differently-abled persons from availing full and equal opportunities to live a meaningful life.

3. The adoption of the “Manila Accessible Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Design Recommendations” as an important guide and consideration in eradicating existing ICT barriers as well as minimizing the digital divide.

4. The provision of a sustainable program for the conduct of timely and relevant workshops, trainings and seminars on accessible ICT to enhance the skills and capabilities of ICT providers and developers to meet the challenges of ensuring accessible ICT for all.

5. The establishment of a fully institutionalized circle of webmasters under the supervision of the DSWD/NCWDP and NCC tasked to oversee and implement relevant programs on accessible ICT

In the light of the above, we jointly pledge to commit to be advocates of an accessible ICT for all, and pledge to be effective instruments in initiating the essential modifications to make our websites accessible for all, including persons with disabilities.

Further, we appeal to our fellow webmasters and colleagues in the ICT industry throughout the country to pool all their resources and efforts to ensure full adoption of the standards prescribed in the “Manila Accessible ICT Design Recommendations” as an essential guide in the planning and development of an accessible website for all.
